Mental illness encompasses a wide range of mental health conditions that affect mood, thinking, and behavior. The causes are often complex and multifaceted, involving a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors.

The exact causes of mental illness can vary greatly depending on the specific condition, but common factors include:

  •  Genetic Factors: Many mental illnesses run in families, suggesting that genes may play a role.
  • Biological Factors: Imbalances in brain chemistry or structural changes in the brain can contribute to mental illness.
  • Life Experiences: Traumatic or stressful life events, such as abuse, the death of a loved one, or financial problems, can trigger mental illness in people predisposed to these conditions.
  • Environmental Exposures: Exposure to environmental stressors, toxins, or even prenatal damage can play a role in the development of mental illness.

Voices of Healing

“My initial visit with Dr. Shorten went very well. I was comfortable with discussing my problems and with his responses. I felt “equal.” He seemed understanding of my choices and thoughts, which means a great deal to me. I’m looking forward to my next visit! I have been seeing psychiatrists for nearly ten years, and it is rare for me to look forward to seeing a new one. Decent prices without insurance!” -Madison

“A great team of professionals that are responsive via call/text/zoom. I have anxiety so being able to message instead of calling helps tremendously. I also don’t have insurance. The rates are reasonable.”-Mario

“They are extremely professional and non-judgemental. He made me feel comfortable during ou first visit and is willing to work with me to find what will work.” -Andrea

“I started having anxiety issues and my doctor couldn’t help. I called Platinum Psychiatry and spoke with Mel. She was kind and compassionate and went out of her way to help me book an appointment for the very next morning.” -Jeff
