WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR ADJUSTING OR CHANGING MY MEDICATION?

From time to time, medications may require adjustments in dosage or timing or it may become apparent that a different medication is better suited for you. Every individual is unique. Our dedicated staff is accessible via phone or text to address any concerns you may have.

Additionally, you have the option to schedule an extra visit with your provider for further evaluation and discussion.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I EXPERIENCE SIDE EFFECTS?

Side effects of medication can vary, ranging from short-term to long-term effects. Some may dissipate over time, while others may persist. If it’s determined that a side effect is undesirable and unlikely to resolve on its own, discussing a medication change is advisable.

In many cases, side effects can be managed by adjusting the dose, frequency, or timing of medication intake. Our experienced medical staff is here to assist you in determining the most appropriate course of action.

What kind of treatment plans do you offer?

Our goal is for you to find the right medication that works for you. Psychiatric treatment is not one size fits all solution. It takes trial and error to find what works best for your biology and environment. Our team will work with you to design a safe and effective personalized treatment plan for you.

Here’s how our process works:

After the initial visit.
It’s important to follow the prescribed medication regimen. Our providers are well-versed in prescribing practices, ensuring that your dosage and medication type are both safe and suitable.

If you experience any side effects or symptoms, don’t hesitate to reach out to your provider. They are committed to working with you to address any issues you may encounter.

Taking the medication.
Medications affect everyone differently and it can take a couple of weeks for your body to adjust and realize their full effects.

Psychiatric medications typically require additional lifestyle changes to ensure that side effects and symptoms are managed.

Feel free to message your provider to learn more about how to manage your symptoms and side effects.

Treatment Plan Adjustments
Due to the legal regulations around some medications, your provider may only make adjustments to your medication once per month.

If you are experiencing side effects of the medication, please message your provider to learn how to manage them.

Do you treat other types of mental illness not listed?

Yes!

Depending on the complexity of your medical history, our providers can also provide treatment options for a wide variety of mental health conditions.

Our experts, with their extensive clinical knowledge in psychiatry, are adept at treating various conditions, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, and insomnia. To explore the most beneficial treatment for your situation, please arrange an appointment with one of our professionals.

How can I acquire my medical records?

You may request your medical records and other documentation related to your treatment by contacting us at office@platinumpsychiatry.com

Will you be able to continue my current prescription?

Our providers need to perform a comprehensive evaluation for every new patient. You can present the previous prescription to your provider and it will be taken into account when they craft your personalized treatment plan.

Your provider will help determine whether continuing your previous treatment plan is still a good option for you.

What treatment options are available?

Studies show that medications work very well for the treatment of mental illness. They are safe when administered by a mental health expert and are the most common first-line treatments.

Platinum Psychiatry focuses on personalized medication management. Our providers will craft a treatment plan that tackles your symptoms and adjust the dosage until you have a great fit. They can recommend supplements that can improve your symptoms, stave off any side effects, and help you recover.

Where can I send my medical history?

Prior to your first consultation, we will supply you with intake forms and assessments to fill out. Typically, these documents provide your provider with sufficient information to diagnose your condition and propose treatment options.

Having your medical history and any relevant notes on hand will be beneficial when completing these forms and can also be valuable during your consultation.

Should your provider need your full medical history, we will guide you on how to securely share this information with us.

Will I get a prescription?

If you are diagnosed with a mental health condition and medication is an appropriate treatment option, then you may receive a prescription. It is not guaranteed and there are no refunds if you do not receive a prescription.

What happens during the initial appointment?

We’re here to make this process as easy as possible.

First, your provider will review the medical history and assessments you’ve provided to us before your appointment.

Then, during the initial consultation, they will talk to you about your symptoms and treatment goals. Your provider will spend the majority of the time listening to your concerns, presenting treatment options, then helping you come to a decision on a treatment plan that works best for you.

Do you accept any alternative proof of residency?

At this time, we only accept a valid photo ID that is not expired. You may not receive a prescription without proper identification, and most pharmacies will not dispense controlled substances without an in-state photo ID.

Can I switch from my psychiatrist to you?

Yes!

We understand that finding the right mental health care provider is a deeply personal choice, and we’re committed to making the transition as smooth and supportive as possible.

If you decide to transfer your care to us, we recommend obtaining a copy of your medical records from your current psychiatrist to ensure continuity of care. Our team will work closely with you to understand your mental health history and tailor our approach to meet your needs.

Before the initial consultation, patients are required to submit a thorough medical history survey which will be evaluated before each appointment.

Notes from your previous psychiatrist(s) will help with filling out the required information.

Your previous records will also be helpful in evaluating your prescription history and treatment plans, and determine if they are still a good fit for you.

Do you offer therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?

We do not currently offer therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy. Our current focus is on personalized medication management.

However, there is a lot of value in these therapies and we highly recommend them.

Common Causes of Mental Health Conditions

Mental illness encompasses a wide range of mental health conditions that affect mood, thinking, and behavior. The causes are often complex and multifaceted, involving a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors.

The exact causes of mental illness can vary greatly depending on the specific condition, but common factors include:

  • Genetic Factors: Many mental illnesses run in families, suggesting that genes may play a role.
  • Biological Factors: Imbalances in brain chemistry or structural changes in the brain can contribute to mental illness.
  • Life Experiences: Traumatic or stressful life events, such as abuse, the death of a loved one, or financial problems, can trigger mental illness in people predisposed to these conditions.
  • Environmental Exposures: Exposure to environmental stressors, toxins, or even prenatal damage can play a role in the development of mental illness.
