Get to Know Dr. Todd Shorten

Dr. Todd Shorten is deeply committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered psychiatric care. Having personally experienced the challenges of mental illness, he understands the emotional pain that can come with these struggles.

His approach is rooted in empathy, ensuring that each patient receives treatment tailored to their unique needs. He follows a guiding principle in his practice: "I will never put a patient on a medication that I wouldn’t be willing to take myself."

His goal is to help individuals become the best versions of themselves by providing evidence-based treatment and unwavering support.

What Dr. Shorten Loves About Telepsychiatry

Dr. Shorten values the accessibility and flexibility that telepsychiatry offers. He appreciates the opportunity to connect with patients from diverse backgrounds and help them from the comfort of their own environments. He believes that meeting patients where they feel most at ease fosters better engagement and outcomes.

Philosophy & Inspiration

Dr. Shorten initially set out to become a psychologist, but after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder in his early twenties, he realized the critical role medication plays in recovery. This experience shaped his approach to mental health treatment, blending medical expertise with a personal understanding of the recovery process. He finds deep fulfillment in guiding others toward stability and well-being.

One of his favorite guiding quotes is from Rumi: "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll meet you there."

Personal Interests

Outside of his work in psychiatry, Dr. Shorten enjoys staying active through working out, mountain biking, cold plunges, and riding motorcycles. These activities keep him grounded and reinforce the importance of a balanced, healthy lifestyle, something he encourages in his patients as well.
